Cloudscape (known under the name Doctor Weird until 2001 ) is a progressive metal band from Helsingborg , Sweden .

history

Formation and debut album

Cloudscape emerged from the remnants of the locally successful formation Doctor Weird in southern Sweden, who had concerts with several well-known Swedish bands and also performed at the Sweden Rock Festival in 2000.

Cloudscape was founded in 2001 and consisted of Mike Andersson (lead vocals), Björn Eliasson (guitars), Patrik Svärd (guitars), Hans Persson (bass) and Roger Landin (drums) until 2009.

In 2002, the band signed a contract with Roasting House, a production and management company, to give the band a better starting position in relation to the media industry.

In 2003, several reviews of their demo recordings were published in various magazines and web magazines, which gave the band a higher profile in the metal scene .

In May 2003, Cloudscape started recording at the Roasting House studio in Malmö , Sweden . 12 pieces of music were recorded, which were later published on the album of the same name "Cloudscape". The first album was released in Asia in late 2004, followed by Europe in early 2005.

On October 2nd, 2005 Cloudscape played at the ProgPower Europe Indoor Festival. This was the band's first concert outside of Sweden.

Crimson Skies (2006-2007)

In January 2006, the recording of the band's second album, Crimson Skies , began, which was completed in late March 2006. On June 3, 2006 the album was finally released and supported by several concerts. Among other things, Cloudscape played at the Sweden Rock Festival and gave several concerts in the USA . The song We will Remain was supported by guest singer Anette Olzon , the former singer of the group Nightwish .

In 2007 the band played at the ProgPower UK Festival and began recording their third album on September 2, 2007.

Global Drama (since 2008)

Global Drama , the band's third album, was released on August 18, 2008 in Europe and on August 19 in the US and Canada . Among other things, Cloudscape played on August 16, 2008 at the Bloodstock Open Air Festival and on August 22, 2008 at the Prog Metal Fest in Oslo , Norway . When the band performed in Oslo there were only four of them, as guitarist Björn Eliasson could not perform due to back pain.

In 2009 Roger Landin and Hans Persson left the band and were replaced by Fredrik Joakimsson and Håkan Nyander.

Cloudscape will play on October 2nd, 2009 at the ProgPower Europe Festival in Baarlo / NL.

style

Musically, the Swedes aptly describe their sound as a mixture of melodic, semi-progressive and symphonic metal. Singer Michael Andersson and guitarist Björn Eliasson are the main songwriters of the band. Their influences couldn't be more different and some go way back to the 70s to bands like Yes, Rush, Deep Purple, Kansas etc. and also to the 80s and modern times with Dream Theater, and Symphony X. Micael calls Bobby Kimball (Toto ), David Coverdale (Whitesnake), Russel Allen (Symphony X) and Jorn Lande (Masterplan) as his favorite singers.

Media coverage

During 2003 the band received very good feedback with their demo in various magazines and webzines. Her debut album, Cloudscape , received critical acclaim.
