Militia was the name of an American hip hop group. In 1998 she released her self-titled debut album, which contained the hit single Burn .
Band history
Militia was founded by Jamaal Smith (“Diz”) and Donald Silas (“Deviuz”) as a hip-hop duo in Oakland , California . There were also the two rappers Lord G (Mkonto Fields) and Mr. Tan (Olan Thompson) as well as the rapper Ms. Toi (Toikeon Parham). The group consisted of rappers from different corners of the United States: Diz was originally from Oklahoma City , Deviuz and Ms. Toi lived in Los Angeles , while Lord G. came from Detroit and Mr. Tan from Long Island . Then they sat down with producers Emanuel Dean and Shawn “FMB” Billups and composed the self-titled debut album together. This was released in 1998 through Red Ant Entertainment. The single Burn was released first. It was the first song the group had recorded, back then as a duo. The song is about the search for marijuana that they ran out of during the recording. The song became the band's first and only hit. It sold 119,000 units and peaked at number 52 on the US Billboard Hot 100 .
The wrestler group nWo Wolfpac wanted to use Burn as invasion music, but failed because of the rights of the song. Instead, they had their song nwo Wolfpac Theme composed by Jimmy Hart & Howard Helm based on the motifs of the song. C-Murder then rapped the song. At house shows that were not recorded, however, they used Militias Burn .
Music genre
Musically one tried out the rigid concept of the East Coast vs. To break out the West Coast conflict by combining both camps: the more gangsta-rap- heavy style from New York and the LA-based G-funk .
