Jag Panzer is an American power metal band from Colorado Springs .

Surname

The band was named after the German word Jagdpanzer . Allegedly, the power metal band, which started as a school band under the name Tyrants , borrowed the name of an old VW Beetle that was standing around in their neighborhood and the German word “Jagdpanzer” was written on the back window. The band members themselves, according to their own account, found their inspiration in a book from the local library, in which a large, aggressive-looking tank with the title "a Jagdpanzer" was depicted. While they liked the name, they were concerned that it might be difficult to pronounce the name in English, so they removed the 'd' from the name.

history

The band gained a certain fame in 1984 with their debut album Ample Destruction , which is still considered one of the best US power metal albums of the 1980s.

In the following years, the band had to struggle with changing line-ups and changes in style ( groove metal in the style of Pantera on the 1995 album Dissident Alliance ), which is why they did not succeed until the 1990s. In 1997 the Ample Destruction line-up reunited, and since then the band has enjoyed increasing popularity, especially in the European heavy metal underground.

After more than ten years with a constant line-up, Chris Broderick left the band in January 2008. Jag Panzer quickly found a replacement in Chris Lasegue, who could already be heard on the 1987 demo Chain of Command .

In mid-2011, the group's breakup was announced on the band's website, but a reunion took place in 2013. In 2017 the studio album The Deviant Chord was released , on which Joey Tafolla can be heard on electric guitar.
