Chris Broderick (born March 6, 1970 in Lakewood , Colorado ) is an American guitarist who was best known as a member of the thrash metal band Megadeth , but also worked for Jag Panzer and Nevermore . He also played keyboards at Jag Panzer .

biography

Broderick began playing guitar when he was eleven. He learned electric and classical guitar, but also piano and violin. He practiced up to 13 hours a day. In an interview, he said it seemed more like work than a fun activity. He had been a well-known guitarist on the Denver music scene since around 1988, playing for local bands such as Gray Haven, Industrial Eden - where he also took on the lead vocals - and Killing Time. Broderick also graduated from the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver with a degree in classical guitar .

Jag tanks

After Jag Panzer guitarist Joey Tafolla left the band for the second time and for good , Broderick joined the band. This was not an easy task for him as Tafolla was known for his complex and demanding guitar work. Between 1998 and 2004 Broderick played on four of the band's albums.

Nevermore

Between 2001 and 2003 Chris Broderick was a tour guitarist for Nevermore. For some time it was unclear whether he had also joined as a permanent member. But this was not the case. Between 2006 and 2007 he toured again with Nevermore before joining Megadeth. Therefore it can also be seen on the DVD The Year of the Voyager .

Megadeth

After Glen Drover left Megadeth in late 2007, his brother Shawn , Megadeth's drummer , suggested Chris Broderick as a replacement. Frontman Dave Mustaine was convinced after watching a video of Broderick. In February 2008 Broderick made his live debut with the band on the gigantic tour in Finland and also recorded the album Endgame . Broderick was the youngest member of the cast at the time. Mustaine has often praised Broderick and compared his relationship with him with that between Ozzy Osbourne and Randy Rhoads . He also called him the best guitarist Megadeth had ever had.

On November 25, 2014, Broderick announced on his Facebook page that he was leaving Megadeth . Together with drummer Shawn Drover , he then founded the band Act of Defiance .
