Although he was already playing for Megadeth at the time, he also contributed some parts to Poets and Madmen . During Savatage's time he also worked on the band's side project, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, where he contributed to all of the albums.
Megadeth (2000-2002)
In 2000, Dave brought Mustaine Pitrelli to Megadeth to replace Marty Friedman after being recommended by Megadeth drummer Jimmy DeGrasso . The latter had played with him for Alice Cooper. Pitrelli recorded The World Needs a Hero with the band. When Mustaine pinched a nerve on his left arm and could no longer play, putting all Megadeth's projects on hold, he returned to Savatage in April 2002.
