Act of Defiance is an American thrash metal band from Los Angeles , California that was formed in 2014.
history
The band was formed in 2014 after guitarist Chris Broderick and drummer Shawn Drover left Megadeth . Shortly afterwards, the line-up was completed by singer Henry Derek and bassist Matt Bachand. The band name was suggested by Broderick, but was not borrowed from the Exodus song The Last Act of Defiance , according to Drover . Then they developed the first songs and recorded demos. Shortly thereafter, the band recorded their debut album in three different studios. Broderick recorded the electric guitar and vocals in his own ill-fated studio in Los Angeles, including production. Under the direction of Zeuss , the drums were recorded at Dexter's Lab in Milford , Connecticut, and the bass was recorded by Bachand at ManShark in Southampton , Massachusetts . After a music video for the song Throwback was released in June 2015 , the debut album Birth and the Burial was released on Metal Blade Records in August .
style
According to the band biography on metalblade.com , the album Birth and the Burial was built from unused riffs from Megadeth times. On the album, the group processed personal experiences. Poison Dream is about how someone sacrifices everything for his dream of fame, power and money, while Legion of Lies is about a person who constantly tries to negatively influence the people around him. The theme song is about someone who has broken off contact with his old friends and is now trying to re-establish them before it is too late. In an interview with Blabbermouth.net , Broderick stated that the song Throwback was influenced by guitarists Kerry King ( Slayer ) and Rob Cavestany ( Death Angel ). According to Patrick Schmidt from Rock Hard , the band plays technically demanding, modern Thrash Metal on the album. In an interview with Schmidt, Drover stated that all members are fans of King Diamond . Ronny Bittner reviewed the album in the same issue and stated that only a few Megadeth fans would like it. Through the production and the growls , the album seems much more modern. Instead of developing their own style, however, "the troupe feels right at home in the wake of modern metal that is currently trendy in the USA". On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with the playful qualities of the members.
