The Obsidian Conspiracy is the seventh album by the American progressive / thrash metal band Nevermore . The album was released on May 28, 2010 by Century Media .

Origin and style

In contrast to the previous album This Godless Endeavor , The Obsidian Conspiracy , for which Nevermore had written a total of 13 tracks after a five-year break, was recorded again in the USA. Peter Wichers ( Soilwork ), who had previously appeared on Warrel Danes' solo album Praises to the War Machine and also produced it , acted as producer . Guitarist Jeff Loomis also recorded his solo album during the break.

“After we released This Godless Endeavor in 2005 , we toured for two years. After that we had puffed our mouths off each other. (...) In the difficult situation we first needed a break from Nevermore ... "

- Jeff Loomis

Additional drum and bass tracks were recorded in the band's hometown, Seattle , among others . As with the predecessor, Andy Sneap did the mix in the Backstage Recording Studio in Derbyshire , England . Temptation from The Tea Party and The Crystal Ship from The Doors were added as bonus tracks . A ballad is included with The Blue Marble and the New Soul . Also She Comes in Colors is relatively unusual calm and is partially played with acoustic guitars.

reception

In Rock Hard Boris Emperor review was not only positive. Although he gave eight out of ten points and spoke of an album "that is better than 90 percent of all other metal releases". As a Nevermore fan you have to "speak of a disappointment" "all in all". Nevertheless, the record reached third place on the magazine's monthly "Richter scale" with an average score of 7.9 points.
