Attacker is an American speed metal band from New Jersey .

history

It was founded in 1983 as Warloc . Mike Sabatini (drums), Pat Marnelli (guitar) and Dominic Spina (guitar) are the founding members. After a short time the band found a singer in Brian Bob Mitchell. After several small concerts, at which they played almost exclusively cover versions , Spina got out and was replaced by Jim Mooney. In 1984 the band changed its name to Attacker and the first demo was released.

Metal Blade became aware of the band and released the song (Call on) The Attacker on the fifth part of their sampler series Metal Massacre . The band was then offered a record deal with the label. Jimmy Schulman started as a bass player. During the recording of the debut album Battle at Helm's Deep , Schulman was kicked out of the band again because they were not satisfied with the bass tracks. Lou Ciarlo from the band Hades re- recorded the tracks. The album was released in 1985 and received good reviews in the metal press, but the commercial breakthrough did not materialize. The band complained that their record company hadn't done enough for them and broke the contract. In 1986 the song Disciple appeared on the sampler The Best of Metal Blade Volume 1 .

In the same year Attacker released their second demo. John Leone had meanwhile started as a singer, because Bob Mitchell had left the band due to personal and musical differences. Again with a contribution to a sampler, this time on L'Amour Rocks by Mercenary Records, she was offered a record deal. The second album, The Second Coming , was released in 1988 and is called Attacker's best work. The burgeoning Thrash Metal scene and the lack of support from their record company led to the band breaking up in 1989. The two albums were re-released in 1999 by Sentinel Steel Records.

Reunion

John Leone died in 1994 and Jim Mooney died in 2000. The remaining members Pat Marinelli and Mike Sabatini decided to set a musical memorial to the deceased in the form of a third album. Another guitarist was found in Pat Marinelli, and Felix Torres joined as bassist. Preparations ran from 2000 to 2003, but the band initially couldn't find a singer. After years of fighting with Bob Mitchell, he completed the band again in 2003. The first concert took place in Hoboken on December 13th .

In 2004 the reunion album Soul Taker was released . The band then played at several festivals, including the second Keep It True in Germany. A European tour followed.

In 2005, work began on the successor, The Unknown . Further festival appearances and a tour through Germany interrupted the work. Lou Ciarlo was added to replace Felix Torres. Finally, in 2006, The Unknown appeared .

style

Attacker played the style between speed and power metal, popular in the early 1980s . 1985 was at the Metal Hammer : "Clean played technically good, rough Heavy Metal with a lot of melody and tempo changes." Their music is often described as cross between Judas Priest and Accept described. She was one of the first bands to use JRR Tolkien's books as a source of inspiration .
