Idle Hands ( . English : Idle Hands ) is an American heavy metal - / gothic rock band from Portland , Oregon .

history

After the band Spellcaster broke up , their bassist Gabriel Franco founded a new band with the aim of creating something unique. He then wrote the song Blade and the Will and founded the band Idle Hands with the former spellcaster guitarist Sebastian Silva. The band's name comes from the phrase "idle hands are the devil's playthings," which translates as "Idle hands are the toys of the devil " means. According to Gabriel Franco, this means that people who have nothing to do are more prone to negative activities such as laziness or excessive alcohol consumption.

On June 28, 2018, the band, reinforced by drummer Colin Vranizan, released the EP Don't Waste Your Time on their own , which was produced and mixed by Gabriel Franco . Franco also played the bass on the EP before David Kimbro joined Idle Hands as a permanent bass player for a short time. The band was signed to the German record label Eisenwald and began recording their debut album in late November 2018. The recordings took place in Sharkbite Studios in Oakland , California . The band then toured Europe with Gaahls Wyrd and Tribulation . The album Mana , produced by Gabriel Franco and Sebastian Silva, was released on May 10, 2019. With Brandon Hill, a permanent bassist joined Idle Hands.

Wolfgang Liu Kuhn from the German magazine Rock Hard described the music of Idle Hands as “a mixture of the sound of the best heavy metal band of all time (ie Iron Maiden ) with the coolest elements of goth rock (ie The Sisters of Mercy )”. His colleague Boris Kaiser named bands like Grave Pleasures or In Solitude as reference bands , while Moritz Grütz from Metal1.info magazine described the music of Idle Hands as post-punk and made comparisons with Killing Joke .
