Liege Lord is an American power and speed metal band from Stamford , Connecticut , which was founded in 1982 under the name Deceiver and disbanded in 1990. In 2000 the band got together again for a performance at Wacken Open Air and has been performing regularly since 2013.

history

The band was founded in 1982 under the name Deceiver, named after the Judas Priest song of the same name . The following year the group then renamed itself Liege Lord. A first EP followed on Ironworks Records . The group reached a contract with Black Dragon Records after the band was recommended to the label by Christian Logue ( Savage Grace ). In 1985, the debut album Freedom's Rise was released , with the record being released in America on Ironworks Records. The album received reviews from various music magazines such as Rock Hard , Metal Hammer and Kerrang . Shortly before the release of the second album, Black Dragon Records separated from the band again, so that the single Warrior's Farewell appeared on Ironworks Records. The band at that time consisted of bassist Matt Vinci, guitarist Tony Truglio, drummer Frank Cortese, singer Andy Michaud and guitarist Pete McCarthy. McCarthy left the band shortly afterwards and was replaced by Paul Nelson. Brian Slagel , CEO of Metal Blade Records , became aware of the band and signed them. In 1987, Burn to My Touch, the second album followed, which was produced by Joe Bouchard ( Blue Öyster Cult ). The release was followed by appearances with Talas , Fates Warning , Chastain , Avenger , Sacred Reich , Raven , Anvil , Overkill , Megadeth , Exodus , Malice and Anthrax . The song Legend from the album Burn to My Touch was included on the compilation The Best of Metal Blade Volume 3 in 1988. The sound carrier also contained artists such as Slayer , Lizzy Borden , Trouble , Fates Warning and Nasty Savage . This was followed by further appearances together with Savatage , Megadeth, Exodus, Flotsam and Jetsam and Death . In 1988 Joe Comeau joined the band as the new singer, after which the next album Master Control was released via Metal Blade Records, which was produced by Terry Date ( Pantera , Deftones ). The release was followed by two national tours with performances in each state. The first tour took place with Anvil, initially with Motörhead , while the second was held with Candlemass . In 1990 the band split up. In 2000 the band got together again for a gig at the Wacken Open Air. In 2013 the band reunited to play the Keep It True . Guitarist Danny Wacker and drummer Frank Gilchriest ( Virgin Steele , Riot ) joined the band as new members .

style

The band is considered an important group in Power Metal, with their first album Freedom's Rise being described as a "milestone". On the second album, Burn to My Touch , the band was less epic and melodic, but more varied and still demanding in playing the instruments. Even Master Control is described as "forgotten gem", with songs such as Suspicion strong sound of Iron Maiden remember.
