Manilla Road is an American epic metal band from Wichita , Kansas .

history

The band was founded in 1977 in the city of Wichita in the US state of Kansas by the musicians Mark "The Shark" Shelton, Robert Park, Scott "Scooter" Park and Ben Munkirs.

Although the band is quite important for epic metal, and even co-founded the term, they are almost exclusively known to insiders of the metal scene . Her album Crystal Logic can be described as a milestone in the genre and is repeatedly cited as a reference by many bands.

After the band split up in 1990, Mark Shelton recorded the album The Circus Maximus in 1992 with Andrew Cross (bass, keyboards, vocals) and Aaron Brown (drums, vocals). Although it was only a side project of the guitarist, the album was released by the record label Black Dragon Records under the name Manilla Road to increase sales.

In 2001 there was a reunion of the band by Mark Shelton with new musicians. Mark Shelton died on July 27, 2018 at the age of 60 of a heart attack after performing at the Headbangers Open Air in Brande-Hörnerkirchen .
