The founding members of the band were guitarists Craig Behrhorst and Chris Atchison and drummer Luke Bowman. In 1985 the band released their self-titled debut on the specially founded label Victory Records. In the same year singer Carl Albert left the band and joined the formation Villian. From 1988 he worked as a singer with Vicious Rumors until he died in a car accident in 1995. Rich Wilde took over the role of singer at Ruffians in 1986. In 1987 the band recorded a four track EP .
