Frank Allgöwer (born May 23, 1962 in Heilbronn ) is a German engineer and scientist . In 2004 he was awarded the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize .

Career

From 1981 Allgöwer studied technical cybernetics at the University of Stuttgart . He spent several semesters studying applied mathematics in California before graduating in 1987. From 1988 he worked as a research assistant in Stuttgart, in the meantime several times in the USA. In 1996 he became a Dr.-Ing. With the work Approximate input / output linearization of non-linear systems at the Institute for System Dynamics and Control Engineering under Ernst Dieter Gilles . doctorate and followed a call as assistant professor at the ETH Zurich . Since 1999 he has been head of the Institute for Systems Theory and Control Engineering (until 2005 Institute for Systems Theory of Technical Processes ) and Dean of Studies for Technical Cybernetics at the University of Stuttgart. In 2003 and 2004 he was also visiting professor in Santa Barbara, California. Since 2012 he has been Vice President of the German Research Foundation (DFG). Allgöwer's areas of expertise are systems theory and control engineering .

Frank Allgöwer is married and has two children.
