Tytan is a new wave of British heavy metal band from London that was formed in 1981, split up in 1983 and reunited in 2010.
history
The band was formed in September 1981 by bassist and singer Kevin "Skids" Riddles and drummer Dave Dufort after their group Angel Witch broke up. After vocalist Norman "Kal" Swan and guitarists Steve Gibbs and Stuart Adams completed the band, Blind Men and Fools was released in 1982 via Kamaflage Records . After the release, guitarist Stuart Adams was replaced in the summer of 1982 by Gary Owens, who would later be replaced by Steve Mann ( Lionheart ). The band also recorded an album. The recordings took place at Ramport Studios in Battersea under the direction of Will Reid-Dick . Before the recordings, drummer Les Binks (ex- Judas Priest , Lionheart) had replaced Dave Dunfort. In the song Women on the Frontline was Jody Turner of Rock Goddess heard as guest vocalist. In October 1982 Binks was replaced by Tony Boden on the tour of Great Britain along with Tygers of Pan Tang . Boden, in turn, was later replaced by Simon Wright . Since Kamaflage Records had suffered financial difficulties, the release of the album Rough Justice was delayed until 1985 and was done through Metal Masters Records . The group disbanded in 1983. In 2010 the band got back together and played among other things on the German Keep It True .
style
The band belonged to the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. The music is varied, with Rude Awakening tending towards the genre of Doom Metal , which was not yet delimited from Heavy Metal , and The Watcher towards Power Metal, which was also not delimited at the time . Holger Andrae from Powermetal.de compared them to Tygers of Pan Tang , whereby Tytan “are not that outstanding in the guitar field. Sure, there isn't a John Sykes on every street corner. Kal comes very close to his colleague, especially with more worn numbers like 'Far Cry'. ” Götz Kühnemund also drew a comparison with the Tygers of Pan Tang in Rock Hard . Tytan's "mixture of heaviness and melody" reminds of their early phase, whereby singer Swan is a Jon Deverill with a David Coverdale influence .
