Toranaga was a British thrash metal band from Bradford , West Yorkshire that formed in 1985 and split again in 2006.

history

The band was formed in 1985. In March 1988 the line-up was complete and consisted of guitarist Andy Mitchell, drummer Steve Todd, bassist Andy Burton and singer Mark Duffy. The latter responded to an advertisement in the Kerrang! Magazine and joined the band. The band also already had a contract with Peaceville Records . The debut album Bastard Ballads was released in the same year on this label. It was produced by Kevin Ridley .

After the album was released, several live appearances followed, including on the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show . Toranaga took there a session for the Friday Rock Show of Tommy Vance on. This increased the band's fame, which in September 1989 they signed with Chrysalis Records . With this they released the second album God's Gift in 1990. The first song called The Shrine , which was included on the album, also received a music video. The release of the album was followed by a tour of Europe .

In 1991, Toranaga separated from Chrysalis Records. Mark Duffy and Andy Burton left the band in early 1992. During the 1990s, the band held concerts with changing singers and bassists. Singer Mark Duffy rejoined the band in 2001 and wrote some songs with Andy Mitchell, Steve Todd and bassist Sean Dooley. Several demo recordings followed. Steve Todd left the band in late 2001. In September 2004 Toranaga recorded another album. However, only seven incomplete songs were recorded. The search for a drummer was also fruitless. Andy Mitchell left the band in June 2006 to emigrate to Australia . This led to the separation of the band and the fact that the recorded third album should remain unreleased.

style

On their Myspace profile, the band lists Black Sabbath , Dio , Iron Maiden and AC / DC as their main influences. The band plays classic Thrash Metal, which is in the medium speed range. The band is compared to other bands like Overkill and Holy Terror .
