Omen is an American power metal band from Los Angeles , California that formed in 1983, split in 1988, and reunited in 1996.
history
The band was founded in 1983 by guitarist Kenny Powell, who previously worked for the band Savage Grace . A short time later, singer JD Kimball, bassist Jody Henry, and drummer Steve Wittig joined the band. In 1984 the band signed a contract with Metal Blade Records and released their debut album Battle Cry that same year. The next albums followed with Warning of Danger and The Curse in the following two years. In 1987 the EP Nightmares was released, which was followed by the next album Escape to Nowhere in 1988. On the album Coburn Pharr was heard as the new singer, since JD Kimball had left the band. Shortly after the album was released, however, Powell decided not to continue the band, so the band broke up for the time being.
In 1996 the band got together again. In addition to Kenny Powell, the band now consisted of bassist Andy Haas, drummer Ricky Murray and singer and guitarist Greg Powell. The latter was the son of Kenny Powell. Previously, unsuccessful attempts were made to cast JD Kimball back as a singer. Greg Powell was on the album Reopening the Gates (1997) before he left the band to form his own band. Greg Powell has been replaced by Kevin Goocher.
In 2003 the band recorded the album Eternal Black Dawn . At that time the band consisted of guitarist Kenny Powell, singer Kevin Goocher, drummer Rick Murray and bassist Andy Haas. In the same year, the former singer JD Kimball succumbed to cancer.
style
The band plays classic power metal from the 1980s. At the time, the band's songs were often described as " Maiden on Speed". The distinctive singing is also characteristic.
