Tokyo Blade is an English New Wave of British Heavy Metal band from Salisbury , which was founded in 1980 under the name Killer . The group briefly called itself Genghis Khan .

history

The band was founded in 1980 under the name Killer. After the first demo was released, bassist Andy Robbins left the line-up and was replaced by Ray Dismore. Dismore introduced the name of his ex-band Genghis Khan for the group, as the name Killer was already taken. After Dismore left the band again and he was replaced by Andy Wrighton, Wrighton changed the name to Tokyo Blade. Before that, however, the band had released the single Double Dealin on Powerstation Records , which was released under two versions: one with the band name Genghis Khan and the other under the name Tokyo Blade. Through further live performances, the band convinced the label to release a self-titled album. During further tours the EP Midnight Rendezvous was released . In February 1984 the band played at the Aardschok Festival in Zwolle . She also played at the Earthquake Festival in Kaakshuvel , where bands like Satan , Sortilege , Warlock , Bodine , Vengeance and Crossfire also performed. Before touring France with Mama's Boys in 1984, singer Alan Marsh left the band and was replaced by Vic Wright. In mid-April, the band recorded their second album, Night of the Blade . At the beginning of 1985 the band went on a tour of Germany together with Talon and Railway . In autumn the next album Blackhearts & Jaded Spades was released. Before that, the EP Madame Guillotine was released. After the album Madame Guillotine was released in 1987 , the album No Remorse followed in 1989 . In addition to Andy Boulton, the band consisted of three Germans and an American bassist. Including singer Michael Pozz from Dead Ballerinas . In 1995 the next album Burning Down Paradise was released . The group consisted of singer Alan Marsh, guitarists Andy Boulton and John Wiggins, bassist Colin Riggs and drummer Mark Angel. In the following years, in addition to various compilations and EPs Pumphouse (1998) and Thousand Men Strong (2011), the latter with the original line-up plus German singer Nicolaj Ruhnow (Nick Hellfort, Domain), the first studio album in 16 years was released. The publication was accompanied by major festival appearances, including at Wacken Open Air (2011) and at the Bang Your Head warm-up show (2013).

style

The band plays a classic new wave of British heavy metal ; According to Leon Fabian from Powermetal.de, her albums Tokyo Blade and Night of the Blade were “among the highlights of this era. This was followed by a fall into the middle class [...]. ”The music is based on the 1980s, even with more recent recordings; the pieces “consistently build on powerful, straightforward constructs with fat riffs, catchy hooks and well-crafted highlights. Care is taken to ensure that there is also a bit of variety in terms of composition. Although 'Thousand Men Strong' can't quite keep up with the above-mentioned awesome albums, it's a successful work overall. "
