Solemnity is a German heavy metal band from Augsburg . The band describes their music as "Heavy Horror Metal", which means that they are almost the only ones who serve this genre according to their own statement.

history

The band was founded in Augsburg in the winter of 1998 and initially made a name for themselves as a live band. In 1999 the first CD Live Assassins was recorded and used as a demo .

In 2001 the album Reign in Hell was recorded and mastered at the Eroc Mastering Ranch . A picture of Ken Kelly, who has already worked for Manowar and Kiss , served as the cover artwork .

Two years later the band recorded the album King of Dreams , which included Spirits of the Dead, a cover piece by the US epic metal band Manilla Road . Furthermore, Steve Sylvester from the Italian metal band Death SS had a guest appearance as a singer on the song Vampires's Dance .

In the summer of 2005, the band released another album, Shockwave of Steel . This contained a cover song entitled Воля и Разум by the Russian heavy metal band Ария . While the album in Germany, like the previous ones, did not sell as well as hoped, it was particularly successful in Eastern Europe , Asia and America . The band was able to sell over 17,000 copies of the CD through its own label.

In 2006 the band released the EP Another Bloody Sabbath , which contained unreleased pieces, cover songs and live songs.

Just a year later, in spring 2007, the band released the single One Rode to Asa Bay . The title song, a cover song by the Swedish black metal band Bathory , was recorded live in Ulm Minster together with members of the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra . The second song of the single There Will Be Blood Tonight is another cover song , this time by the American heavy metal band Lizzy Borden . Furthermore, the band filmed their first music video for the song Ax Attack from the album Shockwave of Steel at this time .

The so far last album Lords of the Damned was released in August 2008. For the songs Kiss of Chaos , Hairführer and Kingdom of Flames , vocal passages were recorded with two choirs, which together consisted of 60 people. When recording the album, instruments such as sitars , violins and horns that are atypical for a metal band were used. Towards the end of 2008 the band went on tour in Eastern Europe for the first time in their career.

The band's first DVD ... Other Bands Play - Solemnity Slay! was shot in March 2009 at the Kaminwerk in Memmingen and published in December of the same year.
