Destructor is an American power and thrash metal band from Cleveland , Ohio that was formed in 1984, disbanded in the early 1990s and re-formed in 1999.

history

The band was formed in 1984 by singer and guitarist Dave Overkill, guitarist Pat Rabid, bassist Paul Warhead and drummer Matt Flammable. Together they developed some songs and held some concerts. Auburn Records became aware of the band when they first appeared in The Pop Shop in 1984 and finally signed them. The band went to Suma Recording Studios to record the debut album with producer Paul Hamann . During the recording, bassist Dave Holocaust joined the cast. Maximum Destruction was released on Auburn Records in 1985. The album was released in Europe via Roadrunner Records and was re-released in 1999 on Listenable Records . The band played as the opening act for other groups such as Anthrax , Slayer and Megadeth .

In 1987 the band went to Beachwood Studios with producer Jim DeMain to record their second album Decibel Casualties . However, the album was never released. On January 1, 1988, bassist Dave Iannicca was stabbed to death. The band tried to find a suitable bass player, but the band failed to complete the album Decibel Casualties . The group was heard with the song Storm of Steel on the compilation Heavy Artillery in 1990. The compilation was dedicated to Dave Iannicca. Since the band could still not find a suitable bass player and due to a lack of success, the band broke up in the early 1990s.

With the re-release of Maximum Destruction by Listenable Records in 1999, the band regained attention, so in 2000 the band went into the studio to record new material. However, Listenable Records was not satisfied with the recorded material, so the recorded material should never be released. The lack of a permanent bassist also caused problems for the band. The song The Triangle , created during this recording process, appeared on the compilation Metal Crusade Vol. IV by Heavy magazine , oder was !? .

In 2002 Jamie Walters joined the band as a permanent bass player. In January 2003 the band reached a new contract with Auburn Records. The band worked together on new material and entered the 609 recording studio with producer Don Depew in the spring of 2003 to record the album Sonic Bullet . The phonogram was released in the summer and contained five new songs, two songs from the recordings in 2000 and two live pieces from 2002. In the summer of 2003, the band performed at the 6-Pack Weekend in Cleveland, which also featured Candlemass and Trouble were represented. Another appearance took place at the Bang Your Head in Balingen . The band also played as the opening act for a tour of Iron Maiden , Dio and Motörhead through Cleveland.

In 2007 the album Forever in Leather was released on Auburn Records.

style

The band plays a mix of power and thrash metal, with the songs sounding reminiscent of the works of Exodus .
