Anna Morpurgo Davies
Dame Anna Morpurgo Davies DBE (born June 21, 1937 in Milan , † September 27, 2014 in Oxford ) was a British linguist ( Indo-Europeanist ) of Italian origin.
Life
Anna Morpurgo studied Classical Philology in Rome, where she worked as an assistant from 1959. In 1961/1962 she was a Junior Fellow at the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, DC . In 1964 she was hired as a lecturer in Classical Philology at the University of Oxford . In 1966 she was made a Fellow of St Hilda's College . From 1971 she was Professor of Comparative Philology at Oxford University, also a Fellow of Somerville College . In 2004 she retired . From 1962 to 1978 she was withJohn K. Davies married.

Anna Morpurgo Davies dealt with the script Linear B as well as the Mycenaean Greek and the ancient Anatolian languages , in particular with the Hittite and Luwian . She has taught as a visiting professor at various universities in the United States, including Berkeley ( Sather Professor 1999/2000, Visiting Professor 2006 and 2007).
