Cloven Hoof (English "split hoof ") is a heavy metal band from England . The band was founded in 1979 and was part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal . Robert Plant ( Led Zeppelin ) liked their first demo recording so much that he took it to a national radio station. Rob Halford ( Judas Priest ) also had the tape played on a radio station in Phoenix , Arizona .

After the only respectable success of the debut album Cloven Hoof (1992 under the title The Gates of Gehanna together with the EP The Opening Ritual , re-released as a bootleg CD on "Reborn Classics") the band split up after three more unsuccessful records. After a reunion concert in 2004 as part of the Keep It True festival, bassist and head of the band Lee Payne, singer Russ North and guitarist Andrew Wood were there from the old band. In 2006 the album Eye of the Sun was released, with bassist Lee Payne having a completely new group at the start. Original singer Russ North was there again for the following release, The Definitive Part One from 2008. The album mainly contains new recordings of old pieces. In 2009 Cloven Hoof performed at the Bang Your Head Festival, the Keep It True and the Headbangers Open Air .
