Abattoir (German: Schlachthaus ) was a power / speed metal band from Los Angeles . It was active from 1982 to 1988.

history

Abattoir was founded in 1982 by Mark Caro, Juan Garcia, Rawl Preston, Mel Sanchez and Robert Wayne and played many concerts that year. A short time later, John Cyriis joined as the new singer, the band recorded a demo with two songs. The title track Screams From The Grave was released on the sampler Metal Massacre IV . Abattoir signed a contract with Combat Records . Cyriis and Garcia left the band and formed Agent Steel . For a short time the band was put on hold.

At the beginning of 1985 the band continued. With Steve Gaines, Danny Oliverio and Danny Amaya the band presented three new members. Abattoir played concerts with Metallica and Armored Saint . The debut album Vicious Attack was released in the same year. The album included a cover version of the Motörhead classic Ace Of Spades .

Shortly after the release, Steve Gaines left the band. He was replaced by Mike Towers. In 1986 the second album The Only Safe Place was released , which was far more melodic than the debut. Mel Sanchez got out and founded the band Evildead together with Juan Garcia . In 1987 Abattoir recorded another demo.

In the following period there were several line-up changes. In 1988 the band finally broke up. 2001 was another live album with No Sleep Til Kalamazoo .

In 2009 the band appeared in the line-up of Steve Gaines, Mark Caro, Mel Sanchez, Juan Garcia and Rob Analeze at the Keep It True festival number 12 in Lauda-Königshofen. This line-up corresponds to 4/5 of the current line-up of the LA thrashers Evildead at the time, of which one song ( Annihilation of Civilization ) was also played.
