Cauayan is a municipality in the province of Negros Occidental on the island of Negros in the Philippines . It has 102,165 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 25 barangays . It belongs to the 1st income bracket of the communities in the Philippines and is described as partially urbanized .
It is located approximately 120 km south of Bacolod City . The journey time is around 4 hours by bus and around two hours by car. From Kabankalan City there is also the possibility to travel by jeepney . Its neighboring communities are Ilog in the east, Candoni and Sipalay City in the south, in the west the community borders on the Sulu Sea and in the north on the Gulf of Panay . The topography of the municipality is described as hilly to mountainous in the west and drops into a wide coastal plain in the east and north.
The two islands Danjugan Island and Bulata Island are part of the municipality and are known for their white beaches. They are an attraction for tourists. The Hulao Hulao Reef is located in Barangay Caliling. It can be reached after a 20-minute boat ride.
