Sagay City is a city on Negros Island in the Negros Occidental Province . It is a third income city in the Philippines . The city is located about 84 km from the provincial capital Bacolod City in an easterly direction and can be reached in around 2 hours by car. The travel time from Cebu City is approx. Four hours, including 1 hour travel time with the fast ferry via Toledo City .

history

Sagay was originally known as Arguelles settlement, founded in 1860 by the Spaniards Teniente Francisco Rodriguez and Basiliio Cordova in the mouth of the Bulanon River. On June 11, 1996, the municipality was elevated to a city; The basis for this was the Republic Act 8192, which was ratified on August 10th. The then President Fidel Ramos proclaimed the seventh major city in the province of Negros Occidental.
