The central Philippines with the Visayas Sea |
The Visayas Sea is a small sub-sea of the Pacific and is located in the middle of the Visayas Islands , which form the central part of the Philippines .
The center of the Visayas Sea is approximately 11.5 degrees north and 123.3 degrees east. It is connected in the northwest over the Jintotolo Canal with the Sibuyan Sea , in the northeast with the Samar Sea , in the southeast with the Camotes Sea , over the Tanon Strait in the southwest with the Mindanao Sea (Bohol Sea) and over the Guimaras Strait to the southwest with the Gulf of Panay .
The Visayas Sea is surrounded by the following islands: Panay in the west, Negros and Cebu in the south, Leyte in the east and Masbate in the north. In the western part of the Visayas Sea, in the northeast of the island of Panay, in front of the Bancal Bay , the small archipelago of the Gigantes Islands and the islands of Binuluangan , Calagnaan and Sicogon are located . At the entrance to the Guimaras Strait is the island of Pan de Azucar , on which the 606 m high Mount Manaphaga rises and forms a striking landmark.
