Kinatarkan Island is an island in the Province of Cebu in the Philippines . It is located about 25 km off the west coast of Cebu Island and 12 km northeast of Bantayan Island and 10 km from Hilantagaan Island . In the south of the island is the Tanon Strait , a sea area in the south of the Visayas Sea . The island has an area of approximately 10.8 km² and is administered by the municipality of Santa Fe . In the 2007 census, exactly 5247 inhabitants were registered. The two barangays Hagdan, Langub and the Sitio Bitoon are located on the island.
The island has an elongated elliptical shape. The approximately 6.8 km long and 2.5 km wide island has numerous coral reefs and seagrass meadows . The island's topography is hilly and there is a large lagoon on the eastern coastline . The island's coastline is dominated by numerous towering cliffs that are interrupted by a few shallow beaches. The vegetation of the island consists of dense tropical vegetation, in the interior of the island there are also large, intensively agricultural areas.
There is a ferry connection to the island from the ports in Daanbantayan and Santa Fe.
