Overturned coat of arms

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A fallen coat of arms as an indication of the extinction of the von Hailfingen family in the Bebenhausen monastery church

A fallen coat of arms is a coat of arms that has been rotated 180 °, i.e. is upside down. Such coats of arms can be found on tombs, epitaphs , tombstones, obituaries and grave altars. The fallen coat of arms indicates that the sex of the deceased has also expired, which means that there are no more descendants of this sex in the male line . It is not enough that there are no descendants of the deceased, but that the sex as a whole no longer has any male descendants.
