Daanbantayan is a metropolitan municipality in the Province of Cebu in the Philippines . It has 84,430 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 20 barangays . It belongs to the first income bracket of the communities in the Philippines and is described as partially urbanized .

The community is located in the extreme north of the island of Cebu and it is bordered by the Visayas Sea in the northwest and the Camotes Sea in the east. Cebu City is approx. 128 km south of the municipality and can be reached from there via the coastal road. The only landside neighboring municipality is Medellin in the south. 71% of the topography of the municipality is described as flat and 29% as mountainous . The community includes numerous smaller uninhabited and the inhabited island of Malapascua , which is popular with diving tourists.
Attractions
In the first place of the sights stands the parish church Sta. Rosa de Lima , as well as the Tapilon Point , from which an observer used to warn residents of the approaching Moro pirates . Today there is an observation house on the square, which enables a 360-degree view in any weather. Gato Island , a large rock in the sea that has a cave lying in the water, can be reached after a 50-minute boat ride. Also popular is the Monad Shoal , an underwater mountain that reaches up to 24 meters below the surface of the water. Diving tourists can spot sharks , rays and other underwater animal species nearby . Carnaza Island can be reached after a three-hour boat trip across the Visayas Sea, where rare bird species can be observed.
