The city is located on the east coast of the island of Cebu on the Strait of Cebu , opposite the island of Bohol . history

The city of Talisay was founded in 1648, when monks of the Augustinian order settled there. Talisay received the status of a municipality in 1849. During the occupation by American and Japanese forces, Talisay was an important port for supplying the occupation troops. During the Second World War , Talisay was a center of resistance against the Japanese invaders. In the battle for the Visayas , the American liberators landed on Talisay beach on March 26, 1945, whereupon the Japanese troops surrendered. Talisay received Component City status on December 30, 2000 when Republic Act 8979 came into force.
