Lapu-Lapu City is a Philippine city ​​( Component City ) in the province of Cebu . Her previous name was Opon. It was renamed Lapu-Lapu in honor of the Filipino national hero and the Lapu-Lapu and Maghellan Shrine was built in his honor .

The city occupies most of the island of Mactan , which is just a few hundred meters east of the island of Cebu and is connected to it by two bridges.
