Alcoy is a metropolitan municipality in the Province of Cebu on the island of Cebu in the Philippines . It has 16,979 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 8 barangays . It belongs to the fifth income bracket of the communities in the Philippines and is described as partially urbanized .
geography
It is located on the east coast of the island of Cebu on the Strait of Cebu , opposite the island of Bohol . Cebu City is approx. 93 km northeast of the municipality and can be reached from there via the coastal road. The neighboring communities are Dalaguete in the north, Alegria and Badian in the west and Boljoon in the south. The topography of the city is described as mountainous and very steep except for a small stretch of coast.
