Samboan is a metropolitan municipality in the Province of Cebu on the island of Cebu in the Philippines . It has 20,884 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 15 barangays . It belongs to the fifth income bracket of the communities in the Philippines and is described as partially urbanized . the name of the community is derived from the word Sinamboang which simply means 'to fish' in Cebuano .
geography
It is located on the west coast of the island of Cebu on the Tanon Strait , opposite the island of Negros . Cebu City is about 140 km northeast of the municipality and can be reached via the coastal road via Toledo City . The neighboring communities are Ginatilan in the north, Oslob in the east and Santander in the south. The topography of the city is described as mountainous and steep except for a small stretch of coast.
