Carnaza Island is an island in the Province of Cebu in the Philippines . It is located about 33.5 km off the north coast of the island of Cebu and 128 km north of the provincial capital Cebu City and about 17 km west of the island of Higatangan , in the waters of the eastern Visayas Sea . The island has an area of approximately 1.68 km² and is administered by the municipality of Daanbantayan . In the 2007 census, exactly 2,428 inhabitants were registered. The Barangay Carnaza of the same name is located on the island, which is made up of the Sitios Carnaza, Daanbaryo, Liog-liog, Pantao, Kandionisio and Linao.
The island has a shape similar to a turtle. The topography of the island is characterized by large coastal plains and a flat hilly landscape, the highest point being around 55 meters above sea level. The coastline is characterized by smaller lagoons , sandy beaches and mangrove forests . It is partially covered by thick vegetation, in which you can also observe rare species of birds.
There is no regular ferry connection to the island. In the port of Daanbantayan you can rent boats (including crew) or wait for an opportunity to cross over. The crossing takes about three to four hours.
