The Camotes Islands are a Filipino group of islands that lie in the Camotes Sea between the Philippine main islands of Cebu and Leyte . In the south is the island of Bohol .
They belong to the province of Cebu and consist of four islands:
- Pacijan and Tulang with the municipality ( bayan or municipality ) San Francisco , on it lies the 5 km long Danao Lake
- Poro with the municipalities of Poro and Tudela .
- Ponson with the municipality of Pilar
According to the 2007 census, a total of 89,324 people live on the islands.
The directly neighboring Pacijan and Poro are only separated by a narrow arm of the sea and connected by a bridge.
The Camotes Islands are accessible by boat from Cebu Island from Danao Port and Mandaue City . A fast ferry from the Mactan Yacht Club has been connecting Camotes since April 2017. The port of arrival is Consuelo. The journey takes 70 minutes. From Leyte they can be reached from the port of Ormoc City . The motorcycle is recommended on the islands.
The name Camotes means sweet potato in Mexican . Cebuano is spoken on the islands .
