Peña Island is located in the waters of the Gulf of Asid, to the north of the Visayas Sea, and is administered from the municipality of Cawayan . On it lies the Barangay Peña Island of the same name , which is described as village-like and had exactly 2,639 inhabitants at the 2007 census.

The island has the shape of an elongated triangle oriented to the northeast. The approximately 1.2 km long and 0.6 km wide island has numerous seagrass meadows in front of it. The topography of the island is characterized by flat terrain with no major elevations. The natural vegetation can be found in the south of the island and consists of tropical vegetation, which mainly consists of coconut palms and shrubs. The population lives mainly from fishing.
