Quinalasag Island is a Filipino island that belongs to the Camarines Sur Province and is under the administration of the Garchitorena Municipality . It is located in the west of the Philippine Sea , 2.5 km off the north coast of the Caramoan Peninsula in the Bicol region , 1 km north of Matanga- island , about 0.5 km northeast of Malabungut- and 2.5 km east of Lamit Islands .
On the island are the barangays Dangla, Burabod, Cagamutan, Cagnipa and Tamiawon, these are described as rural and the 2010 census counted 3505 inhabitants. The population lives mainly from fishing , in the interior of the island there are also smaller areas used for agriculture .
The island has an irregular shape, with deeply carved bays in the north and west. The topography is characterized by hilly terrain that rises in the interior of the island up to 200 meters above sea level. The coastline of the approximately 6.8 km long and 6.2 km wide island is characterized by sandy beaches and towering cliffs , which are preceded by numerous smaller coral reefs and seagrass meadows . The vegetation of the island consists of a tropical vegetation, which mainly consists of coconut and nipa palms , in the interior of the island of the Ipil-ipil tree , various types of bush and large-scale grass savannahs.
Local fishermen offer ferry connections to the island from the port in Garchitorena. The crossing takes about 20 minutes.
