Lahuy Island is a Philippine island in the Camarines Sur Province . It is located about 12 km off the north coast of the Caramoan Peninsula in the Bicol region , 2.5 km west of the island of Basot- , about 2 km north of Basog- and 4 km northwest of Bagieng Island . Lahuy Island is located in the west of the Philippine Sea and is administered by the Greater Caramoan Municipality . On the island are the barangays Oring and Gogon, these are described as village and had exactly 2385 inhabitants in the 2007 census. The population lives mainly from fishing , in the interior of the island there are also smaller areas used for agriculture .
The island has the shape of a bone and the topography of the island is characterized by a flat hilly terrain that rises in the interior of the island to 160 meters above sea level. The coastline of the approximately 10 km long and 3 km wide island is characterized by sandy beaches and limestone rock formations, these are preceded by numerous smaller coral reefs and sea grass meadows . The vegetation of the island consists of a tropical vegetation, which mainly consists of coconut and nipa palms , in the interior of the island of the Ipil-ipil tree , various types of bush and large-scale grass savannahs. On the southern coastline of the island there are about 40 hectares of larger mangrove forests .
There is a ferry connection to the island from the port in Caramoan. The crossing takes about 45 minutes.
