Chico Island is a Philippine island in the Masbate Province . It is located about 16 km off the south coast of Masbate Island , 12 km northwest of Naro Island , and about 20 km north is Peña Island . Chico Island is located in the Gulf of Asid, to the north of the Visayas Sea, and is administered by the municipality of Cawayan . On the island is the Barangay Chico Island of the same name . This is described as village and had exactly 1980 inhabitants in the 2007 census.
Seagrass meadows are in front of the coastline of the approximately 1.4 km long and 0.7 km wide island . The topography of the island is characterized by flat terrain with no major elevations. The vegetation of the island consists of a tropical vegetation, which mostly consists of coconut palms and bushes. The population lives mainly from fishing , in the interior of the island there are also smaller areas used for agriculture . Larger mangrove forests can be found on the northern coastline of the island . These have been under nature protection since April 23, 2000. The Chico Island Wildlife Sanctuary was established on an area of 7.77 hectares .
There is a ferry connection to the island from the port in Cawayan. The crossing takes about 45 minutes.
