Danjugan Island is the name of an island in the Negros Occidental Province in the Philippines . It is located about five kilometers off the west coast of the island of Negros in the Sulu Sea . The island has an area of ​​approximately 43 hectares and is administered by the municipality of Cauayan .

Danjugan Island is an elongated island that has a total of six shallow lagoons , two of which are directly connected to the sea. The surrounding coral reefs are the Convention Reef, Andreas Reef and the Tanguigue Reef. The largest reef are the Twin Peaks, it is directly in front of the south coast of the island. The island is inhabited and has tropical vegetation, in which, among other things, the red-backed heron ( Nycticorax caledonicus ), the big foot fowl ( Megapodius freycinet ) and the white-bellied sea eagle ( Haliaeetus leucogaster ) and 60 other bird species live. There are nine different bat species in the island's caves .

The island is a popular diving spot due to the clear tropical waters . Around the island, three marine protected areas were established by the local authorities on an area of ​​102.4 hectares in 2000, which are collectively known as the Danjugan Island Marine Reserve. The coral reefs and surrounding waters are home to a wide variety of species, including several types of giant clam , Halfbeak (Hemiramphidae), Flying Fish ( Cypselurus spp. ), Garfish ( Tylosurus spp. ), Napoleon wrasse ( Cheilinus undulatus ), giant manta ( Manta birostris ) and the whale shark ( Rhincodon typus ).
