Antonio Conte (fencer)
Antonio Conte (born December 11, 1867 in Minturno , † February 4, 1953 ) was an Italian fencer . He won a gold medal in the Olympics .
Antonio Conte took part in tournaments in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was a participant in the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris . There he started in the championship competitions in foil and saber . In the saber competition he reached the final. There he defeated his compatriot Italo Santelli and thus won the gold medal. This made him the only Olympic fencing champion who did not come from France, along with the Cuban Ramón Fonst . The French dominated the competitions with wins in five of seven competitions.
