Tomaž Pirih

Tomaž Pirih (born June 12, 1981 in Jesenice ) is a former Slovenian rower who won a bronze medal at the 2009 World Championships.

Athletic career

Tomaž Pirih was sixth in the four without a helmsman at the Junior World Championships in 1998. In 1999 he won the silver medal in the two without a helmsman . In 2000 he won the bronze medal in the four with helmsman at the U23 World Championships . In 2001 he missed the A-final both at the U23 World Championships (in two-man without) and at the World Championships (in four-man with). At the 2002 World Championships in Seville , the Slovenian four-man with helmsman came fifth, with three brothers in the boat: Miha Pirih , Tomaž Pirih and helmsman Žiga Pirih .

In 2003 Miha and Tomaž Pirih switched to the four without a helmsman. Together with Gregor Sračnjek and Rok Kolander they finished sixth at the World Championships in Milan . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens Tomaž Pirih, Janez Klemenčič , Gregor Sračnjek and Mihi Pirih competed in the Slovenian four-man and finished ninth. At the 2005 World Championships in Gifu , Pirih took 13th place with the four-man without a helmsman. In 2006 the Slovenian four-man with Kolander, the Pirih brothers and Matej Prelog again reached the A-final at the World Championships in Eton and finished in fifth place. The Slovenes also finished fifth at the 2007 World Championships in Munich in the line-up of Tomaž Pirih, Rok Rozman , Rok Kolander and Miha Pirih. In the same line-up, the four Slovenes reached fourth place at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing a year later .

In 2009 the four Slovenes won the bronze medal behind the British and Australians at the World Championships in Poznan . In 2010 the Slovenian four-man missed the A-final in all World Cup regattas, at the World Championships in New Zealand Rok Kolander and Tomaž Pirih took 12th place in the two-man without helmsman. Tomaž Pirih competed in the World Cup in 2011 and 2012, but no longer took part in the World Championships.

The 1.86 m tall Tomaž Pirih rowed for Veslaski Klub Bled .
