Alan Campbell (born May 9, 1983 in Coleraine , Northern Ireland ) is a British rower . He won one silver medal and two bronze medals at world championships by 2011.

Career

Alan Campbell won the Diamond Sculls, the one-man race at the Henley Royal Regatta in 2003 . In the same year he finished eighth in the U23 world regatta . In 2004 he made his debut with the double quad in the World Cup, at the Olympic Games in Athens the double quad took twelfth place. In the 2005 World Cup season, the British double foursome reached the A final three times, at the 2005 World Rowing Championships the boat missed the A final and finished in seventh place.

In 2006 Campbell switched back to the single and won his first World Cup regatta in Munich, with a second place in Poznan and a fourth place in Lucerne, he also won the single world cup. At the rowing world championships in 2006 he reached the A final, but only finished sixth and last there. In 2007 Campbell won the Diamond Sculls for the second time, and came fourth at the World Championships in Munich . The following year Campbell won again at the World Cup regatta in Munich and took fourth place in Lucerne. After an injury interruption , he returned in time for the Olympic Games in Beijing , but only achieved fifth place.

In 2009 Campbell won the World Cup regatta in Banyoles. At the World Championships in Poznan , he fought with the New Zealander Mahé Drysdale , who reached the goal only a second before Campbell; with silver, Campbell had won his first international medal. The following year the World Championships took place in Drysdale's homeland on Lake Karapiro , the Czech Ondřej Synek won ahead of Drysdale and Campbell. 2011 Campbell won the Diamond Sculls for the third time, at the World Championships in Bled Drysdale won ahead of Synek and Campbell. At the 2012 Olympics , Campbell rowed the bronze medal behind Drysdale and Synek. Four years later, Campbell reached the B final at the 2016 Olympic Games , but did not take part in this placement race for medical reasons.

Campbell is, like his New Zealand competitor Mahé Drysdale, a member of the Tideway Scullers School in the London borough of Chiswick .
