Zsuzsanna Francia

Zsuzsanna "Susan" Francia (born November 8, 1982 in Szeged ) is an American rower of Hungarian origin, she is an Olympic champion and five-time world champion.

Francia grew up in Abington (Pennsylvania) and began rowing in 2001 at the University of Pennsylvania , where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in criminology and a master's degree in sociology. She trains at Princeton .

Francia first attracted international attention in 2005 when she finished fourth at the World Championships in Gifu with the American eighth . In 2006 she competed in the World Cup with Brett Sickler in double sculls , at the World Championships in Eton she won the gold medal with eighth, the double scull only finished twelfth. In 2007 Francia tried her hand at the first World Cup regatta with Caroline Lind in a pair without a helmsman , at the World Cup finals in Lucerne and at the World Championships in Munich , she won with eight. In 2008 Francia competed in the first World Cup regatta with Anna Goodale in a two-man without helmsman, at the World Cup regatta in Lucerne and at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , she rowed again in the victorious US eight.

At the 2009 World Championships , as in 2006, she competed in two boat classes and won both world championship titles: in eighth and with Erin Cafaro in two without. In 2010 Francia only entered eighth at the World Cup in Lucerne, otherwise she rowed with Erin Cafaro in an uncontrolled two-man. At the 2010 World Championships on New Zealand's North Island, the two finished third. In 2011, Zsuzsanna Francia rowed together with Meghan Musnicki in two, at the World Championships in Bled both were back in eighth. Francia also rowed in the US eight at the Olympic Games in London , which won the gold medal in the line-up of Erin Cafaro, Zsuzsanna Francia, Esther Lofgren , Taylor Ritzel , Meghan Musnicki, Elle Logan , Caroline Lind, Caryn Davies and Mary Whipple .
