Abington Township is a township with 55,310 inhabitants (2010) in Montgomery County in the southeast of the US state Pennsylvania .

Abington is on the northern outskirts of Philadelphia and includes the parishes of Abington, Ardsley , Crestmont , Elkins Park , Glenside , Hollywood , Huntingdon Valley , McKinley , Meadowbrook , Noble , North Hills , Roslyn , Roychester , Rydal, and Willow Grove .

history

When European settlers arrived in the late 16th century, Lenni Lenape lived in the area. Abington was founded in the early 18th century and may be named after a parish in England . On December 7, 1777, a skirmish between American and British forces took place on nearby Edge Hill during the American Revolutionary War . In 1855 Abington was connected to the North Pennsylvania Railroad . 1950 with Penn State Abington a campus of the Pennsylvania State University opened.
