Charles Gywnne "Chuck" Douglas III (born December 2, 1942 in Abington , Montgomery County , Pennsylvania ) is a former American lawyer and politician ( Republican Party ). Between 1989 and 1991 he represented the state of New Hampshire in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Chuck Douglas attended the public schools in Fort Washington (Pennsylvania) and then until 1960 the William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia . Between 1960 and 1962 he studied at Wesleyan University and then until 1965 at the University of New Hampshire . After studying law at Boston University and being admitted to the bar in 1968, he worked in his new profession in Manchester between 1970 and 1974 . Between 1968 and 1991 he was a member of the New Hampshire National Guard , where he made it to colonel. Douglas was legal advisor to Governor Meldrim Thomson in 1973 and 1974 . Between 1974 and 1976 he served as an associate judge on the New Hampshire Superior Court . Douglas then held the same position on the state's Supreme Court from 1977 to 1983 . For the next two years until 1985 he was Senior Justice at this court .

In 1988 Douglas was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the Second Constituency of New Hampshire , where he succeeded Judd Gregg on January 3, 1989 . Since he was defeated by the Democrat Richard Swett in the 1990 elections, he could only serve one term in Congress until January 3, 1991 . After serving in the House of Representatives, Douglas worked as an executive attorney for a law firm in Concord . He published two legal papers in 2001 and 2002.
