Joseph Peirce

Joseph Peirce (born June 25, 1748 in Portsmouth , New Hampshire Colony , † September 12, 1812 in Alton , New Hampshire ) was an American politician . Between 1801 and 1802 he represented the state of New Hampshire in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joseph Peirce grew up in the British colonial days. He attended schools in his home country and joined the American revolutionary movement when the war of independence broke out . Between 1775 and 1776 he was a soldier in the Continental Army . From 1788 Peirce appeared as a politician. He became a member of the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton and was a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives on several occasions between 1788 and 1801 . Between 1789 and 1794 he also worked as a town clerk.

In the 1800 state elections, Peirce was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC for the second term of New Hampshire . There he took over from Jonathan Freeman on March 4, 1801 . However, he resigned his mandate in Congress in 1802. After a by-election, his seat fell to Samuel Hunt . After his tenure in Congress, Joseph Peirce worked in agriculture. He died in Alton on September 12, 1812.
