Caleb Ellis
Caleb Ellis (born April 16, 1767 in Walpole , Norfolk County , Province of Massachusetts Bay , † May 6, 1816 in Claremont , New Hampshire ) was an American politician . Between 1805 and 1807 he represented the state of New Hampshire in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Caleb Ellis studied at Harvard University after elementary school until 1793 . After a subsequent law degree and his admission to the bar, he moved to Newport and then to Claremont, New Hampshire. Ellis became a member of the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton . In 1803 he was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives.
In the 1804 congressional election, which was held nationwide, Ellis was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC for the second New Hampshire seat. There he took over from Samuel Hunt on March 4, 1805 . Until March 3, 1807 Ellis could only complete one legislative period in Congress . In 1809 and 1810 he was a member of the Advisory Board to Governor Jeremiah Smith . In 1811 he was a member of the New Hampshire Senate , and the following year he was a federal elector in the presidential election . From 1813 until his death in May 1816, Caleb Ellis served as a judge on the Superior Court of New Hampshire.
