Jeduthun Wilcox

Jeduthun Wilcox (born November 18, 1768 in Middletown , Colony of Connecticut , † July 18, 1838 in Orford , New Hampshire ) was an American politician . Between 1813 and 1817 he represented the state of New Hampshire in the US House of Representatives .

Life

Jeduthun Wilcox studied law after finishing school. After his admission as a lawyer in 1802, he began to work in Orford in his new profession. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Federalist Party founded by Alexander Hamilton . Between 1809 and 1811 Wilcox was an MP in the New Hampshire House of Representatives .

In the congressional elections of 1812, which were held state-wide, Wilcox was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC for the then newly created sixth mandate from New Hampshire . After a re-election in 1814, he was able to complete two consecutive terms in Congress from March 4, 1813 to March 3, 1817 , which were marked by the events of the British-American War .

After the end of his time in the House of Representatives, Wilcox withdrew from politics. He died in Orford on July 18, 1838. His son Leonard (1799-1850) was between 1842 and 1843 US Senator for the state of New Hampshire.
