Ellery Albee Hibbard

Ellery Albee Hibbard (born July 31, 1826 in St. Johnsbury , Caledonia County , Vermont , †  July 24, 1903 in Laconia , New Hampshire ) was an American politician . Between 1871 and 1873 he represented the state of New Hampshire in the US House of Representatives .

Career

After a good primary education, Hibbard studied law in Haverhill and Exeter, New Hampshire. In 1849 he was admitted to the bar. He then began to practice in his new profession in Plymouth . In 1853 he moved his residence and law firm to Laconia. Hibbard was a member of the Democratic Party . From 1852 to 1854 he was an administrator in the New Hampshire House of Representatives . From 1865 to 1866 he was a member of this chamber himself.

In 1870, Hibbard was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the First District of New Hampshire . There he came on March 4, 1871 to succeed the Republican Jacob Hart Ela . But since he lost in the elections of 1872 to William B. Small , Hibbard could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1873 . Between 1873 and 1874 he was a judge on the New Hampshire Supreme Court . Then he worked again as a private lawyer. He was also a director at Laconia National Bank and a member of the school board in his home parish, Laconia. Hibbard died there on July 24, 1903.
