Joshua G. Hall

Joshua Gilman Hall (born November 5, 1828 in Wakefield , Carroll County , New Hampshire , †  October 31, 1898 in Dover , New Hampshire) was an American lawyer and politician . Between 1879 and 1883 he represented the state of New Hampshire in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Joshua Hall attended Gilmanton Academy and then until 1851 Dartmouth College in Hanover . After a subsequent law degree and his admission to the bar in 1855, he began to practice in his new profession in Wakefield and Dover. Between 1862 and 1874 he was also a district attorney in Strafford County . Hall was a member of the Republican Party and Mayor of Dover in 1866 and 1867. Between 1871 and 1872 he was a member of the New Hampshire Senate and, in 1874, the State House of Representatives . From 1874 to 1879 he was a federal attorney for the New Hampshire district.

In 1878 Hall was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the first district of New Hampshire , where he succeeded Frank Jones on March 4, 1879 . After re-election in 1880, he was able to complete two terms in Congress until March 3, 1883 . After leaving the federal capital, Hall worked again as a lawyer. He died on October 31, 1898 in Dover and was buried there.
